Abantu the People Circle

Abantu the People Circle

In 2025, Wendy Freeman and Sasha Daucus united in collaboration and  active solidarity with Nontokozo Sabic to support the building of Ubuntu co-create. One of our collaborative initiatives is the Abantu People Circle, a webinar series designed to create sacred space for unheard voices and untold stories from our communities. This platform brings together change-makers, community workers, educators, and activists to share their wisdom, challenges, and hopes. Through mutual care and allyship, we aim to foster meaningful connections and inspire collective action for a brighter future.

where it began -

In 2020, A group of Deep Adaptation Forum volunteers came together to form the Diversity and Decolonising Circle (D&D Circle). Its core mission was to confront white supremacy, structural racism, and colonial mindsets within the broader climate adaptation movement.

Mission and Purpose
  • Examine Privilege: Highlight how Western, white privileges unconsciously shape mainstream ecological and collapse-preparedness spaces.
  • Center Marginalised Voices: Listen to and stand in solidarity with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPoC).
  • Connect Crises: Emphasise that climate breakdown and systemic social oppression (like patriarchy and colonial exploitation) are deeply intertwined.

Key Activities
  • Anti-Racism Training: Offered specialised internal training sessions for key movement volunteers, facilitated by experts like Nontokozo Sabic.
  • Open Spaces: Hosted peer reflection spaces, open meetings, and dialogue circles focused on unlearning dominant cultural habits.
  • Resource Sharing: Curated external de colonial readings, guides, and indigenous perspectives (such as works by Tyson Yunkaporta and Robin Wall Kimmerer) to broaden the movement's worldview
